To participate and assure you'll be heard
with reasonable audio quality, you should
use the following directions to install a SIP

This assumes that you've installed
"TalkShoe Live Pro" here:

which should be self-explanatory.
The "Shoe Phone" inside the
"TalkShoe Live Pro" window doesn't
work so well. The text chat and other functions
work well enough, but for voice, that part lacks
quality. To workaround this, we've had
success installing a SIP VOIP program.

Install it.

After you have it installed, click "EDIT" at the
top of the main window. Select "OPTIONS"
and then "Advanced" on the new panel that
pops up.

"DTMF Tones" are in the default as
"Automatic". You'll want to choose "In-band",
then click "OK".

To call-in to the TalkShoe cast, click the
Dialpad tab to have the Keypad accessible.
Then put this string in the blank next to the
telephone icons:

sip:talkshoe@66.212.134.192

When they answer, they'll want you to dial-in
the "CALL ID" and the "#". The current
CALL ID for the cast would be put in like this:

26635#

Then they'll ask for your TalkShoe
10-digit PIN number that you gave to
TalkShoe when you downloaded and installed
"TalkShoe Live Pro". You enter that followed
by the "#" and you're connected to the cast.

Each time you come to dial-in to the webcast
through Gizmo5, it would be a good idea to
reset the DTMF Tones to "In-band". It doesn't
seem to hold the setting after you close the
program.

This is a little complicated, but it is still not
brain surgery or rocket science. It appears to
be worth the effort to install it.

BlogTalkRadio went bust for us last weekend. Thinking
that Saturday's might have been just bad luck, we tried it
again on Sunday. The results were no better.
BlogTalkRadio has great potential, but it appears that for
now, they won't try to make it internationally interactive. It
is a site for people that live in the USA with unlimited long
distance telephone plans to call their friends who play the
role of big-time radio host. Some of the casts are very
interesting, especially to Americans, but unworkable as
far as holding conversations in a Voice Over IP (VOIP)
environment like what we had in the Skypecasts.

Skypecasts did demonstrate that these kinds of
conversations are possible. I'm sure it won't be long until
some other sites pop-up offering the same features and
even more. In the meantime, maybe this Today at
1000UTC for an hour, we can try "Tokbox". After, at
1100UTC, we will do a TalkShoe cast:

As you may know, Skypecasts have been discontinued
by Skype/eBay. Nobody seems to know the reason why
or even if there is a reason. We talked about migrating
away from Skype before when the system was failing so
miserably. We tested PalTalk and found it less desirable.
We considered OoVoo and found it also to not be scalable
to the needs of our listeners. There are several other sites
which may work, but require users to pay, so that is out of
the question. What seems fitting, at least for the moment,
is BlogTalkRadio. On the plus side, you don't need to install
client software. You can just access using your web browser:

Another good feature is that each show is archived at the site.
So if listening is what you come for, you don't have to be
available when the show is Live, you can come at your
convenience and listen afterwards. You can also download
the shows as a podcast and listen to them on your MP3 player.
It is all free for the listeners. As the host, I have to pay for a long
distance phone call for the two hours of the show. I don't like
that much, but this will all work out eventually.
At the moment, we'll limit the show to 2 hours and start it at
1100UTC and go to 1300UTC.

World Radio Network [www.wrn.org] A rebroadcaster of fine national radio stations from around the world. For decades, countries have broadcast their national radio services on Shortwave Radio. Nuke McCain Day - Election Meltdown '08

On August 5, 2008, John McCain traveled to Michigan's
Fermi Nuclear Power Plant to suck up to his campaign
contributors and push their Energy products. The Fermi
Plant, famous for a near catastrophic meltdown in 1966,
was the inspiration for the film "The China Syndrome"
(which immediately preceded the real life Three Mile Island
meltdown and later Chernobyl's). The Fermi disaster was
the subject of Gil Scott-Heron's song "We Almost Lost Detroit".

Detroit Edison, with approval of the governments, waited
6 years and retired its broken plant in 1972 and continued
operation with a second reactor. Now Detroit Edison wants
to build a third one. The pros and cons are many. The issue
is that McCain promotes expanded consumption of Energy,
rather than reducing its use and concentrating on alternate
energies. Not much can save America or the world on this
front. Still, McCain comes down on the wrong side of the
issues.
